Planning: Dublin and Paris

For spring break we are going to Paris and Dublin.  Have you been to either?  What must-see items would you recommend?   We'll only have about 3 days in Paris and 2 1/2 days in Dublin.

I'm from the U.S. and have only been to Canada and Mexico.  Hubby is from the U.S. and has been around the world several times in his military career, but not for fun.  We look forward to seeing Europe "off the clock", and to taking Kiddo on her first international trip.  Have you ever been out of your home country?

  1. La Defense in Paris has amazing modern architecture... it looks likes something out of a Sci-Fi movie!

  2. We've been to both and both places we did the hop on hop off bus tours. We had the kids with us and it worked really well. We were able to see all of the "must see" places at our own pace. In Dublin we did a day tour of the Wicklow mountains, so beautiful! In Paris my favorite was the Notre Dame and the Lourve. I also just loved walking around and taking it all in, Paris is such a beautiful city. I'm so excited for you!

  3. Make sure to check out the singing nuns at Sacre Coeur. You should borrow Mom's Rick Steves books- she actually did a really nice job with our itinerary when we went. I would have brought my Lonely Planet for you to borrow, but I'm staying here for the foreseeable future....

  4. The Louvre and the Musee D'Orsay are not overrated in the least. Don't miss.

At that time of year, you will wait in line forever to get to the top of the Eiffel Tower and wait forever again to get back down. Skip it unless the view is really important to you.

Climbing to the top of Notre Dame is fun, and there's cool stuff up on the roof.

    Montmarte is awesome.

The Bateaux Mouche (tour boats) on the Seine are touristy, but they're fun and give you a unique view of the city.

Bus tours may seem antithetical, but with three days in Paris, a quick overview may serve you well.
