Puttering around. Thursday report.

Finally got the dining room done.  About time, especially since I have dinner guests tomorrow.  (My brother and nephew, for pot roast.  It's marinating already, in 1/2 cup fresh squeezed OJ, 3 tablespoons brown sugar, a teaspoon of soy sauce and a teaspoon of worchestershire.  We'll see how that goes... it's going in the crockpot with onions, taters, celery, and carrots.)

Pears, yo.  See?  Three were totally necessary.  Hobby Lobby, how do I love thee?

These are my Walmart placemats, that you can see in the first photo under a basket of coasters and a wooden trivet.

Another "see, my house would look nicer if it were DONE" photo.  The trim around the double doors needs to be done properly.  It's just kind of... there.  And the baseboard heaters (bottom left) need replacing.  We replaced them in our bedroom last year and it made a HUGE difference in heating efficiency.  Eventually we'll replace the laminate floors with proper wood too, but not till our dogs pass on.

Like my dining room set?  There's two more chairs to it, too.  It was hella expensive and it's already scarred on top from a hot pan.  I still love it endlessly though.  This is at full length - three leaves.  The skinny white door is a closet where I keep play stuff for my nieces and nephew.  Coloring books, crayons, building blocks, and a big tote of stuffed things.  I have to remember, as an auntie, not to always send all the toys home with them, because I want my house to be fun to visit.

This is the wall to the right of the doors. (The photo is totally covering a weird hole in the wall.) Then there's a fireplace to the right of that, but I didn't bother taking pics of that.   The green is vivid, huh?  I'm thinking of moving to a lighter shade this summer.  More of a celery than a lime, perhaps?  We'll see.

My sewing stuff found a home in part of the old entertainment center.  Not sure if this is a permanent solution but it sure works for now.  I have a couple items in there that are waiting for action, but I did the easy stuff before I put the machine away, so I get points for doing 3 mendings too!  Mom has to come over and re-teach me the whole blind hem stitch.  She has to do that about once a year.

The screen printing stuff wound up on a plastic folding table in another room.  I really want to figure out the screen printing thing soon.  Seems like a handy thing to be able to do.

I actually went to bed at a decent hour, as hubby and I are carpooling tomorrow and he goes in EARLY but I got a work call that irritated me so I got up and cleaned some.  Set the table for Friday dinner, etc.  I meant to bake but I was one egg short for what I wanted to make so I decided to blog instead.  And eat cream cheese off a spoon and listen to Game of Thrones on audiobook.

Tomorrow should be a very stressful day, work-wise, but then I don't have to go back to work till Wednesday.  Wish me luck!

  1. I really like the pears - they'll look good even if you change the wall color. The existing color is nice in the pictures but maybe it's bright IRL.
    Enjoy your long weekend.
